Shawn Millbern brings to the company three decades of experience in real estate
development, project management, and financial analysis of potential land and property
acquisitions.
Millbern has served in several capacities for the company since joining in 1986, including
senior project manager responsible for the The Waterfront Hilton Beach Resort, the Hyatt
Regency Resort and Spa and the renovation of the Key Largo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas,
Nevada. His current efforts focus on planning the third luxury hotel at The Waterfront, the
company's master-planned community in Huntington Beach. With his extensive experience and long tenure,
Shawn is often the person the company turns to for solutions to the exceptional challenges.
Throughout his career, he has supervised the construction of several high-profile commercial buildings, mixed-
use condominium/retail developments, and the conversion of a high-rise apartment building to condominiums.
Shawn’s education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of
Southern California, and a Master of Business Administration degree in real estate finance from the University of
California at Los Angeles. He is also a licensed California real estate broker.
Robert L. Mayer, III, President
As the third generation of the Mayer family, Robert "Bob" Mayer III's primary responsibilities
include market analysis, acquisition, land planning and entitlement of many of the company's
land development projects. Prior to his involvement in the company's land development
operations, he directed the renovation of the guestrooms at the Hilton Waterfront Beach
Resort, a multi-million dollar project that was synchronized with the hotel’s on-going
operations.
Bob also acted as a project manager during the construction of the Hyatt Regency Huntington
Beach Resort and Spa, assuming full responsibility for the bidding, negotiation, installation and agency approval
of all kitchen and laundry equipment, a complex effort consisting of over $3 million of equipment and the
supervision of designers and contractors. Mr. Mayer's innate business savvy contributed to the on-budget, on-
time completion of this large-scale project.
Bob attended the University of Nevada at Las Vegas and worked as a manager in the food and beverage
operations at the Monte Carlo Casino and the Key Largo Casino.
Robert L. Mayer, Jr., Chairman & Chief Operating Officer
Robert L. Mayer Jr. learned his trade from the ground up—just as his father had done before
him. "RJ," as he is better known, began his career by locating and assembling land for new
residential and hotel developments throughout California, Nevada and Arizona.
RJ’s background and experience in land acquisition, entitlement and construction allowed him
to make a smooth transition from the field to the boardroom. With his diverse background, RJ
serves The Robert Mayer Corporation well as he directs activities in the key growth areas of
land acquisition, development and hospitality operations.
RJ has served the business community of Huntington Beach as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. He is
the Orange County Business Council and is a member of the Board of Directors of the California Hotel &
Lodging Association.
RJ also represents The Robert Mayer Corporation and the Mayer family by spearheading its charitable activities.
He has served on the Boards of Directors for various philanthropic organizations throughout Orange County,
including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley and Serving People in Need (S.P.I.N.). RJ is also an
active participant in the Orange County Family Business Council. This association allows RJ to share issues and
opportunities with other second-generation business owners.
